Considering a new pair of glasses? You’re probably hoping to find an on-trend frame which matches your taste and style. We know that in our branches we’ve a lot of frames to choose from, so here’s our Lead Dispensing Optician, Hollie Stevenson’s guide to glasses fashion right now.
I love glasses! They are a wonderful way to display your personality, whether it is to show a bit of fun and make a statement, or to be delicately understated.
Coming into Autumn, colour trends always take a step towards warm tones. This year in Autumn/Winter fashion jewel tones, black and gold are playing a big part too.
Round is always in fashion, a truly classic shape that will really get you noticed. Darby in colour Wine is a particular favourite for me. Crafted in a lovely warm red which suits many skin tones, this plastic frame has a little pop of blue on the detailing. Perfect all year round but bang on trend for autumn.
If you fancy something a little more understated but not lacking in style, Tawny in Black and Gold would be my pick. The fine metal frame gives a lighter appearance on the face, but the upswept square shape really packs a punch with style. The contrasting gold tone on the bridge and sides add a luxurious feel to them.
For the gentlemen, one of my favourites is Jordan, in colour Navy. A chunky, square acetate frame which has a hint of retro styling. The navy-blue colouring is great on many skin tones and will have you seeing autumn in style!
I love a quirky aviator frame. Onyx really hits the mark for me as it combines the classic double bridge of the aviator with a rounder, more wearable shape. Coming in 2 colour combinations there is sure to be a colour to suit!
At Douglas Dickie, we’ll have a team of experts on hand to help you find the style that you’re looking for – hopefully we’ve given you some ideas. Once you’ve found your frame, we’ll expertly fit the frame to your dimensions and make you a perfect pair of glasses for your prescription. Don’t forget your antireflective coating!
As we come into the cooler months, it is important to still look after your eye health. Sunglasses are essential all year round - I personally wear my sunglasses just as much in winter as I do in summer.
As well as classic designs in our own range, we have a fantastic range of designer sunglasses, available in prescription and non-prescription. My favourite ranges are Farah, a gent’s range which includes classic and trend-led pieces much like their clothing range and Longchamp, the luxury French designer behind the ever popular Le Pliage bag. Designs focus on wearable takes on the classic oversized looks in on trend colours.
Other designers include Radley, Hugo Boss and Nautica.
It is not just about style, however; the lenses play a huge part too. I recommend polarised lenses for sunglasses as they reduce glare, something we get a lot of in Scotland! Speak to your Dispensing Optician or Dispensing Assistant about polarised lenses.
